Thumbelina was passing through town on Reginald. She had planned to got to the beach forest to collect some more ingredients for remedies as well as some more fruit.

The boys had been driving her nuts all day-again-so Matches had spent the better part of the past hour running around outside in the snow trying to clear her head. Her puppy sense tingled as she skipped around like an idiot, or rather she randomly spotted Reginald and Thumbelina and ran over to them. "Hello Miss Thumbelina! Reginald! How are you today?"

Surprised out of her mental listing by the sudden voice, Thumbelina looked up. "Oh hello Matches. I hope you have been well?" She continued moving towards the beach slowly, assuming Matches would follow if she wished to.

Matches blinked and followed, curious as to what Thumbelina was doing to which she leaned and whispered. "Where are you going? Can I come?" She very much did not want to be around her house at the moment. There was a good chance she was going to smack one of her friends soon if they kept teasing her as they had been.

"Ah yes of course! I could use the extra hands for carrying things.. I was getting supplies.." Thumbelina wondered if she had simply forgotten the question asked or intentionally ignored it. "I heard you were opening a candle shop."

Matches grinned and swished her skirts as she walked. She hadn't intended to brush past Thumby's earlier question she'd just gotten ahead of herself and ran past it without thinking.  "Thank you! I'd like to help." She wrinkled her nose as she thought over her friends statement, " I would like to...but I need to find more things first and I'm having problems getting everything situated right but maybe if I'm lucky everything will work out."

"What are you in need of? We could always stop by the pawnshop later and see if Cassius has it? His shop has a great many things." Thumbelina smiled subconsciously when she said his name.

Matches started ticking things off on her fingers as she walked, "I need several large vats for the wax and some smaller ones and pressing boards so I can make essences for scents. The things that were left in the house are made of wood and those just soak up the oils I need to work with." She looked at Thumbelina with a curious expression. "Who's Cassius?"

"Oh and soaking up the oils is bad right?" Thumbelina didn't know anything about fancy candle making.. the ones her mother made were always just for light. "He runs the pawn shop.. I am surprised you haven't stopped by his shop yet. You'll like him.. He's a wonderful person." She smiled fondly as she thought of him.

"Very bad. Then I can't use it for the candles." Matches smiled softly at Thumbelina, "Really? I hope so...most of the people here are really nice." She stared at her hands for a moment then shrugged. "And I haven't been going in places as much anymore. I think I scare Miss Dorothea and Miss Katrin and I didn't want to upset anyone else."

"He is the dearest person in my heart.. I cannot see why anyone would  ever dislike him... We could stop there now if you want?" Thumbelina smiled up at Matches.

Oh. OH so that's what it was. Matches hid a smile with her hand, she most certainly wanted to meet Cassius now, she just had to know. She nodded quickly to Thumbelina, "Please, I would like that."

Thumbelina rode Reginald over to the pawn shop and shifted into her larger form before opening the door. "Good morning Darling.. I have a friend with me today." Reginald ran in after her and over to Cassius.

Cassius waved over at Thumbelina and leaned down to pat Reginald on the head. "Good morning M'dear~ A friend?" He questioned curiously and walked over.

Matches stared at Thumbelina for a moment--it always threw her off when the blonde woman changed sizes--and followed her inside silently. She blinked from the light change and looked around a moment before staring at Cassius with an expression somewhere between horror and awe spread across her face.

"Ah yes!" Thumbelina turned to Matches and motioned to her with her hands. "This is Matches.. She was opening a candle shop.. but she was missing some things so I said she should stop here to see if you had any.. Oh and Matches-" She smiled and motioned to Cassius. "This is Cassius, my beloved."

Cassius watched the girl that followed Thumbelina in carefully. He noted her expression and cleared his throat. "Ah, hello there~" Walking over, he held out a hand and tilted his head. "I'm sure I have whatever you are missing somewhere around here~".

Matches was very proud of herself for managing not to scream and start flailing  though she was still sporting a wide grin when she took Cassius' hand and shook it. "Hello! It is very nice to meet you! I've never seen anyone like you! Are those arms all real?! How did you get like that it's so-" She stopped and snapped her mouth shut as she realized she was prattling. Dropping her hands to her side she ducked her head some. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be rude I just get excited sometimes."

Thumbelina giggled slightly at Matches reaction, but covered it with one hand. She looked over to Cassius to check his reaction, she didn't expect him to react badly.. but one could never be sure.

Cassius stared at Matches blankly for a few moments before lifting up all four arms and winking. "Yes, they're real~" He chuckled lightly and crossed his arms. "Don't worry, miss. It's natural to be curious~"

Frost formed along Matches' cheek as she went straight back to grinning. She was heavily relieved she hadn't upset him.  "That's amazing! I bet it's really helpful!" She glanced around a moment as she became aware of her surroundings again, "Miss Thumbelina thought you might have some of the things I need? I make candles and I don't have the vats I need or pressing boards for the emulsions."

Thumbelina was relieved, but not surprised by his reaction. She didn't want to get in the way of his business so she started wandering around the shop looking at various things. After all she could always get her hugs later.

Cassius glanced at Thumbelina as she wandered off before focusing on Matches again. "Hmmmm, I might have vats in the backroom.". Scratching his chin, Cassius walked back behind his counter and pulled a registry book out. After flipping through a few pages, Cassius grinned over at Matches. "I do have vats... I don't have pressing boards sadly."

She nodded and absentmindedly brushed off the frost that had formed on her face. "How many do you have? I need at least two of the big ones and maybe three or four smaller ones, though maybe some of the pots at the house will work." Matches sighed, "And hopefully I'll find something to use for a pressing board soon, I don't want to ruin a weeks work by trying to make an emulsion on a wooden board."

"Perhaps you could commission one from a blacksmith? I think there are two in town?" Thumbelina tried suggesting though her voice became quieter as she spoke due to her growing worry that she was interrupting.

Cassius consulted the registry again "Mmm, it appears I have one large and three small...". Smiling at Thumbelina, he said "That is a grand idea for both of us actually. I need to commission some pieces and Miss Matches most likely will need too.."

Matches went very still and stared at the floor. When she spoke it was very quiet and she didn't raise her eyes, "Is....is the blacksmith here nice?"

"I am afraid I've never actually met either of them.. so I wouldn't know.. They probably are.." Thumbelina let out a sigh of defeat followed by an apologetic look. "... I'm sorry.."

Cassius tilted his head. "There is only one way to find out...".

Matches poked her fingers together and stared at her hands. "I don't think I would like to talk to them alone....the one from where I'm from was very mean and....they might be scary too." She rubbed her face with her shoulder to break off the layer of ice that had formed when she'd gotten scared. "They might throw things at me like that one did."

"We could go with you perhaps? Cassius was saying he needed some things too so it wouldn't be a bother at all." As she spoke Thumbelina moved closer to Cassius.

Cassius reached out for Thumbelina and pulled her closer when he noticed her inching towards him. "Mmmm... isn't today a holiday though?" He asked.

She was still hesitant but she nodded at Thumbelina, "I would like that." Matches blinked slowly then started to smile, those two were much too cute together. "Is it a holiday? I don't even know what day of the week it is anymore...I've been trying to get everything set up."

"A-ah yes it is.." Thumbelina felt a light blush rise into her cheeks as he pulled her close. She hadn't been.. Together with him in front of others before.. Perhaps he didn't care. He was interesting in that way. She smiled up at him then looked back to Matches. "Is there anyway I could assist you in getting set up.. aside from the items you're missing?"

Cassius nodded "I'll help if you want me too, I'm quite strong and can do heavy lifting if we need it.". He rubbed Thumbelina's back, smirking at the blush.

Matches could help but grin at the pair. They were absolutely adorable and she'd be writing about them later that night. She brushed a bit of her hair out of her face and rocked on her heels before speaking, "Maybe? I still need to find more things for scents and colors and I could use help moving some of the displays. Travis and Reeve keep getting distracted when I try to get them to help me move things." Her smiled faded significantly as she thought about the butt-faces that kept messing with her.

"Oh I met Travis briefly once... And Reeve..." Thumbelina furrowed her brows with some distaste. ".. I didn't much care for him starting a snowball fight outside my house...." She glanced over at Cassius, noting his smirk. Was he intentionally trying to embarrass her? Tricky. She leaned close and whispered in his ear. "... Will you be staying over again tonight?"

"I've never met Travis nor Reeve... but if they come around maybe our combined efforts can keep them from bothering you..." He said. Cassius shivered slightly when Thumbelina brushed his ear with her whispering. "Yes, M'dear~ I plan on staying over again..." He murmured, his cheeks darkening slightly.

Matches hid a smile, "They're both very nice but they team up on me when it's just us and say I can't do things with them because I'm a girl and...and Reeve said I was fat and Travis agreed!" She stamped, she was still really upset with the pair of them over that particular bit of teasing. Matches blinked out of her grump fit to giggle quietly at Cassius and Thumbelina. "You two are very well suited to each other."

Thumbelina had been lost to the conversation at first, smiling at her success at getting him to blush again. But Matches comment about the boys snapped her out of it, rather quickly and she looked over to matches with a look as if someone had just kicked her puppy. "They said WHAT?! Did their mothers not teach them any manners?!" She huffed. "If I see those boys I..." She sighed.

Cassius frowned as Matches described Travis and Reeve. "Mmm, they seem very impolite and rude... how unpleasant.". He blushed lightly at Matches statement of them and smiled at her.

Matches rubbed her face, "I don't think they really think they're trying to be mean but.....they are sometimes." She giggled quietly, "Don't hurt them, they're just dumb buttfaces." Trying not to just stare at the pair Matches swished her skirts, "Mr. Cassius, how much would you like for your vats? Or would you prefer trade? I still have some of my old wares with me or I could make a bulk set of something simple if you'd prefer?"

"Don't worry, I only wish to talk to them... and likely couldn't cause them real damage even if I wanted to." Thumbelina rested her head against Cassius.

Cassius waved his hand and said "I wouldn't hurt them, but I'm sure my looks alone would intimidate them~". Scratching his chin, he thought over the prices. "Mmmm, 350... but I am willing to haggle and trade."

"Oh, talking would be okay." Matches squeaked quietly and mentally went over all the money she had. " Um...definitely some trade please, I'm not sure I could manage that and still be able to get food and the rest of the things I still need..."

Thumbelina smiled lightly at Matches behavior, thinking she was very cute and childlike.

Cassius nodded "I'd be willing to bring the price down to 150 and trade for the rest."

Matches puffed some of her hair out of her face and smiled, "That would be much better. Would you prefer something scented or not? Large or small or many little things?" She motioned with her hands to give an idea of the sizes of things she could make. "I have several pillar candles that are almost as big as I am, when they burn down the wax follows the curves of the design and when it pools it forms a secondary set of candles at the base so that the one tower becomes several tiny pillars and you still get the scent and color of the main one in them." She wouldn't say it but those were her favorite candles, she had the most fun setting and carving the details into the wax.

"Wow that sounds really beautiful, I had no idea you were so skilled!" It was clear from Thumbelina's tone and expression that she was genuinely impressed.

"That does sound beautiful... hmmm, what different patterns do you have?" Cassius questioned.

Matches smiled brightly at them and tucked her hands behind her. "Thank you. It's an honor to make something to house the light so I try to make them as pretty as I can." She titled her head a moment as she thought. "Several plant based ones, with the curves of the candle being vines? But I have ones based off the buildings where i used to live and they have more corners and sharp edges."

Thumbelina listened to her with interest but tried not to show preference.. she wouldn't want to sway his opinion.. it was his business after all.

"Hmmm, I think I'd like a plant based one..." Cassius smiled. "I'm very curious to see where your candle business goes and what products you produce...".

"Preference of color? I have a dark green one and a light teal one right now." Matches folded her hands in front of her and smiled. "Thank you, hopefully I'll be able to get everything settled soon and go back to trying new forms and techniques."

Thumbelina giggled lightly, he had picked the kind she thought sounded nicest too. She looked up, just watching his facial expressions. Though she was very excited to watch that candle burn.

"The dark green I would prefer.". He smiled down at Thumbelina when he noticed her watching him.

Matches nodded and scratched the bridge of her nose. "May I bring it by later? I might have to get help carrying it to make sure it doesn't get damaged."

Thumbelina smiled back up at him before turning her attention back to Matches. "Did you need help getting the vats home?"

"I can help you move the vats to your home and then help move the candle..." He offered. "It'd save us some time..."

"Oh, I might actually that-" Matches paused and smiled at Cassius. "That would be very helpful. Thank you."

Thumbelina smiled and backed away so that it'd be easier for Cassius to leave for the vats. "Would you like me to hold any doors open for you?"

Cassius smiled at Matches and nodded towards Thumbelina. "That would be lovely, M'dear~" He commented as he went for the backroom. "I'll go get them prepared.".

Matches stood there a moment and watched Cassius step into the back. As soon as he was out of sight she started jumping up and down giggling to herself. Her voice was a squeaky whisper as she hopped, "I'll be able to craft again I miss it so much!"

Thumbelina looked over at Matches and smiled before hurrying after Cassius into the backroom.

Cassius found the vats rather quickly and stacked the smaller ones in the large one. Grunting slightly, he hefted the large vat up and headed back towards the front room. He smiled and mouthed a thank you to Thumbelina when he noticed her holding the door open.

Matches promptly stopped prancing around as soon as she saw Cassius back and assumed an innocent expression. Her hands behind her back she smiled, "Am I to carry the others? I'm not so sure I'd get five steps with that without falling over."

Thumbelina nodded to him with a wide smile and after he had passed back into the main shop she hurried around him towards the front door. "Ah! Don't forget your coat darling." She worried.

Cassius huffed lightly and grinned at Matches. "Not at all dear, I can carry it all the way there~". Adjusting his hold, Cassius set the Vat on the floor and slipped his jacket on. "Thank you, M'dear. Would have been dreadful if I had forgotten." He smiled at Thumbelina and picked the Vat back up. "Alright, shall we be off?" He asked.

Matches grinned and nodded before slipping over towards the door. "Thank you very much. Both of you." She patted herself a moment to make sure she had her coin purse still on her and waited.

Thumbelina went over to the door and held it open. "Of course." She gave a short whistle and Reginald reappeared from behind the front counter.. he had likely fallen asleep during the talking, but now he charged head first into the new snow.

"I'm afraid I can't see very far ahead of myself... so I'll just be following behind you two~" He said and adjusted his grip of the vat.

"Oh. OH! Okay! Sorry!" Matches scurried out the door and spun around a brief moment, happy to be back in the cold. The warmth of the shop had been a little too much for her.

Thumbelina walked beside Cassius, watching the ground. Reginald ran circles around Matches in his usual wiggly way. "So where is your shop Matches? I haven't seen it yet."

Cassius made a noise of agreement "I'm curious about that too."

Matches looked around a moment then motioned in the direction her shop was. "We're down this way, not far. And it's blue~ I love blue." She grinned at Reginald and hopped around with him as she headed towards her shop. "This way!"

"Blue is a lovely color." Thumbelina agreed and followed. Her attention shifting between watching Matches and watching to ground because she was worried with Cassius having his arm so full that he may trip on something.

Cassius huffed "The color blue is very nice, I agree...". Shivering slightly, he followed Thumbelina a bit more closely, being wary of his step.

Frost formed on her arms as she ran around with Reginald. "It's my favorite color!" Matches grinned as her shop came into view. "See?! It's it lovely!" She rushed over to open the door for them and hummed quietly to herself.

Thumbelina frowned lightly with worry when he shivered. "Oh yes, quite nice." She looked at the shop briefly, but her attention was clearly elsewhere as she helped lead Cassius into the shop.

Cassius let out a sigh of relief when he gently placed the vats onto the floor of the shop. Shivering slightly, Cassius rubbed at his arms and smiled at Matches. He looked around the shop from where he stood "This place is very nice~".

Matches smiled brightly and swished her skirts as she stood there. "Thank you! We're still working on it but it's...it's really nice to have a home again." She stood there a moment and then blinked and laughed. "I'll be right back I need to make sure the green one is where I think it is! I'll just be a moment I'm sorry!" She dipped into a quick curtsey then darted out of the room and up the stairs, the sound of her laughing at her self floating back down the stairwell.

Thumbelina giggled at the sounds of Matches laughter. "She's a good kid... Thank you for helping her." She turns to Cassius. ".. Are you alright though? You seemed especially cold."

Cassius smiled as Matches ran off and chuckled lightly at her actions. "Hmmm? Oh... yes, it is rather cold outside..." He said in response to Thumbelina. "I'll be fine~ My body is just not suited for the cold...".

Matches dove for her bed and the journal where she'd written down all her hiding placed for her wares--the girl was fairly paranoid and wasn't particularly trusting that the people in Fabula wouldn't just walk in and take her things while she was out and it didn't help that she didn't actually have a key to the house yet. Finding the information she needed she hurried to the stairs and slid down the banister back into the main room. "It's over here! Sorry!" She darted across the room then shoved her back against a large cabinet and scooted the thing a foot or so to reveal a person sized cuby in the wall where both of the large pillar candles were hidden.

Thumbelina walked over to where matches was to see how the candle looked in person. She was really excited when she saw all the intricate carvings on it.. though with the size she hoped Cassius carrying all these heavy things wasn't going to put too much strain on his back. She guessed he was going to get paid and they would leave again shortly after arriving.. So she just waited.

Cassius followed after Thumbelina and looked over the pillar candle. "Very beautiful~" He said and looked it over. Stepping back he gestured at the candle. "It's very lovely and the carvings are very detailed."

Matches smiled and ducked her face some. "Thank you, I'm glad you like it." She sighed as she remembered she still needed to pay Cassius for the remaining balance and patted herself down until she located her coin purse. "Can I pay you now that way you have all of it at once? Will you be okay carrying the money and the candle?" She glanced between the two of them.

Thumbelina checked to see if Cassius had any pockets.. she couldn't actually remember if he did.

Cassius nodded and gestured to his coat. "It has pockets~". He took the money from her, did a quick count of it as he transferred it into the inner pockets of his coat. "And I'll be okay carrying the candle~ It's just the ice patches outside that make me wary.". Leaning down, Cassius got a hold on the candle and lifted it up.

Matches blinked then glanced out one of the windows. "Do you need me to move the ones outside the shop? I'm sorry, I'm rather fond of ice"

"You can do that?" Thumbelina was genuinely surprised. She had seen Matches use some frost magic before but had no idea she was so skilled.

Cassius tilted his head. "You're capable of that?" He asked curiously. "I would like to see this... if that's alright? It sounds very intriguing."

Matches nodded a moment. "I'm a frostmare, I'm made out of cold....and misery. The cold listens to the cold" She shrugged then slipped outside and wiggled her foot out of her shoe and poked her toe at a patch of ice which proceeded to crawl up her foot  and settle into her skin. She slipped off her other shoe and ran around the front like that, poking ice here and there to remove it from the path. "Is this alright?"

And misery. Those words seemed to stick with Thumbelina, she wondered what sort of fate the cheerful girl had to endure. She walked out of the shop into the nicely cleared path.

Cassius had followed and watched with increasing interest. "That is quite remarkable... I don't think I had come across anyone like you when I used to travel..." He said.

Matches smiled at both of them. "That's good. We're not nice things to come across, it's safer to never meet one of us I think. At least if we're lost in the cold." She ran back to get her shoes and tucked them under her arm. "Thank you both for everything! You're very nice!"

"I'm just glad you were able to get some of the things you needed." Thumbelina smiled and waved goodbye to Matches.

Cassius slipped back inside the store to grab the candle. Coming back out, he smiled over at Matches. "It was wonderful doing business with you~ Please inform when once you've set up everything and start producing again.". As he walked with Thumbelina he finished "I would very much like to get more of your candles!"

Matches hid her smile and waved to them both as they left. "I will! Be well, both of you!" She watched them for a bit to make sure they made off well before ducking back inside her shop and running straight to the back to play with her new things.
